The Urban League of the Central Carolinas ~ Keeping You in the Know

When Henry Rock, new business specialist and market executive, was first referred to me by the National Urban League to help launch an Entrepreneur’s Academy for young African American males through City Startup Labs, it did not take long for us to move on his vision for Charlotte. In fact, I shared a lot of Henry’s passion for entrepreneurship and empowerment of communities and agreed to allow the Urban League of Central Carolinas to serve as the fiscal agent for the program. City Startup Labs held its first Entrepreneur’s Academy Graduation and BizPlan Pitch and Competition this past May for the 25 students selected for the program. Out of 25 original students who began the six-month journey through the course back in December 2013, 17 pitched their businesses and 13 were allowed to move on as finalist for the BizPlan Pitch and Competition held at Packard Place. The competitors pitched their plans over two evenings with inspirational applause, encouragement, fascination, and joyful tears from my eyes as I thought about what I witnessed.
